There is an urgent need to find safe and affordable ways for waste to be collected and treated in cities in developing countries.

In many Peri-urban areas across Malawi, huge quantities of faecal waste are being dumped into drains or rivers, contaminating the environment and posing a serious public health risk. In Blantyre, Royal Sanitation Solutions Pump Away initiative has the potential to make a meaningful difference to this challenge: enabling all residents, including the poorest urban citizens, to benefit from the collection, safe transportation and treatment of faecal waste. With Pump Away Service, residents have a chance of partially or fully emptying their Pit latrine (toilet) or Septic tank depending on how much they can afford. This makes sanitation facility sustainable, as there is a chance of reusing full pit latrines or septic tanks instead of constructing a new one. Royal Sanitation Solutions initiative focus on using low-cost technologies to address the most pressing challenge facing low-income areas in terms of sanitation. Today, Royal Sanitation Solutions is serving residents facing sanitation challenges in Peri-urban areas of Blantyre.
